With “falling” back an hour today, we’ve turned the corner and are officially into fall! What we begin to lose in daylight we gain in crisp air and cozy evenings. In this new series, Palette Life, I’ll be sharing mood boards based on my paintings. I often use what could be described as an “autumnal […]

We artists can be heavily influenced by our surroundings. Often you can see a shift in our work with a simple change of scene. My work is not only shaped by my experiences growing up on my family’s farm in rural Alabama, but by the life my husband and I have cultivated for our family […]
September is an odd little month, isn’t it? The kiddos go back to school, summer isn’t quite over, yet Fall has yet to really begin. The still warm and long days and cooler nights are perfect for taking a country road trip! Winding down dirt roads, sun on your face and wind in your hair, […]
My style as an artist has evolved over the years and I feel like I’ve reached a point where it is very ME. My work has hit that groove where it is truly me poured out on a canvas– each piece represents who I am, the things that inspire me and the life that moves […]

If there’s one thing we Southerners know, it’s barns. And fences. And rust. Lots of rust. For the past several years, the subject of Historic Preservation has been near and dear to my heart. So last year when I was asked to donate a Live Event Painting during the 40th Anniversary of The Heritage Foundation […]

About The Artist
Hi there! I'm Deann. I'm a painter. I traded in my corporate high heels for paint brushes years ago, and for the past decade have had an open working studio located in a once abandoned stove and mattress factory in beautiful historic Franklin, Tennessee, just south of Nashville. I love where I live, and in my paintings I seek to tell the stories of our collective past, the rich history of the South, and to inspire the viewer to listen to our ancestors voices and not just see but cherish our old places and the lives they have influenced. Formally trained at Auburn U and The Chelsea School of Art & Design, I use layer upon layer of palette knife texture that is reminiscent of tree bark and peeling barn paint. I do life with my family on a mini-farm in Brentwood, Tennessee. We have lots of animals including a rooster named Colonel, who keeps the entertainment coming. I hope you enjoy my work, and if you would like to stop by and see me at The Factory, just email me at [email protected] so I can be sure not to miss you!
