We artists can be heavily influenced by our surroundings. Often you can see a shift in our work with a simple change of scene. My work is not only shaped by my experiences growing up on my family’s farm in rural Alabama, but by the life my husband and I have cultivated for our family […]
My style as an artist has evolved over the years and I feel like I’ve reached a point where it is very ME. My work has hit that groove where it is truly me poured out on a canvas– each piece represents who I am, the things that inspire me and the life that moves […]
Earlier this year, I was approached in my studio by acclaimed builder Jack Thomasson of HGTV to create a custom piece of artwork for the uber cool media room of the 2014 HGTV Smart Home in Nashville. Jack works with HGTV to produce the HGTV Dream Home, and the HGTV Smart Home, focusing on eco-friendly […]
If there’s one thing we Southerners know, it’s barns. And fences. And rust. Lots of rust. For the past several years, the subject of Historic Preservation has been near and dear to my heart. So last year when I was asked to donate a Live Event Painting during the 40th Anniversary of The Heritage Foundation […]

Just wanted to share a few pictures from The Harding Art Show, held every year here in Nashville, Tennessee. This is the tale of two artsy mice. One mouse had a studio in the country where she painted the rural world around her, little churches, dirt roads, and windflowers in the soft, pale colors of clay and straw. Then, one day, another artsy mouse came to work in her studio. This mouse was different, […]
About The Artist
Hi there! I'm Deann. I'm a painter. I traded in my corporate high heels for paint brushes years ago, and for the past decade have had an open working studio located in a once abandoned stove and mattress factory in beautiful historic Franklin, Tennessee, just south of Nashville. I love where I live, and in my paintings I seek to tell the stories of our collective past, the rich history of the South, and to inspire the viewer to listen to our ancestors voices and not just see but cherish our old places and the lives they have influenced. Formally trained at Auburn U and The Chelsea School of Art & Design, I use layer upon layer of palette knife texture that is reminiscent of tree bark and peeling barn paint. I do life with my family on a mini-farm in Brentwood, Tennessee. We have lots of animals including a rooster named Colonel, who keeps the entertainment coming. I hope you enjoy my work, and if you would like to stop by and see me at The Factory, just email me at [email protected] so I can be sure not to miss you!
